Negative Impacts from Importing Aggregates from Outside the County
Increased Cost of AggregateDue to the shortage of aggregate Caltrans is paying double for aggregate base compared to the rest of the State.
Increased Greenhouse GasesPermitting more local sources of aggregate can help meet the requirements of AB 32. The below figure illustrates the projected CO2 Emissions in 2020. The red bar illustrates how much CO2 would be emitted if the County continues to rely on imports. If new local quarries are permitted to meet all of the County’s aggregate needs, CO2 emissions would be reduced by 3 fold!
